We had our end of year art show on Tuesday June 11th. I am just now having time to sit down and create the virtual tours of the show. I won't be done with this by June 13th, but am passionate enough about the work and the technology to finish it throughout the month of June. So far, I have started a tour of one of my graduating students exhibitions. I still have to make a tour of another senior exhibit and the general show. That is, however, what I want to teach my students to do in the fall.
In addition to my work with the theta and ThingLink, I also read a book about exhibiting student work this spring. The goal is to put the students in charge of their learning, by introducing the concept of the show at the beginning of the unit and to assign roles such as curator, publicity team, designers, installers, etc... The installers will most likely be in charge of documenting the show, since they will have intimate knowledge of where and how the work has been installed. After each show (one about every six - eight weeks), we will document and create these online galleries of the exhibits so we have an archive of the shows, but also so we can share this work with a huge audience. The jobs will rotate with each exhibition, so more than one team will get to work with the technology. During the Teknologia project, I believe it was Brittany who said we could even use the technology to have the groups make a tutorial video to pass onto the next group (the first install team makes a video of how to install and hands it off to the next install team). Overall, in this phase I got to work a little bit with Sten from Ithaca, who has a vision and enthusiasm for the work that is contagious. I met some others at the Ken Welgoss studio visit. I know there are other art teachers in the program and I would love to see how they are approaching the project. I do plan to move to the next level and help my students take over the work.
