My work is back into manual mode photography. By taking away the after-effects of manipulation in Photoshop, I am truly forced to examine concept above all else. I did have fun with experimenting with Zoom Bursts (an in camera technique) while photographing my pill bottles that state "may cause dizziness." I also played a bit with long-exposures. Finally, I did go back into Photoshop to try and create the diorama or the miniatures effect.
This past week was about reflecting and researching. I organized all of my files from the residency in Vermont, specifically going over my notes from the critiques. Then I started brainstorming what my work would focus on for the next six months. Finally, I explored other artists, such as Eliza Bennet and John Coplans. I also updated my professional artist site, gatorheadoriginal.com .
Spoonful of SugarSuppressed / CompressedPatient SpacesWinter 2018 Residency at Vermont College of Fine ArtsIn the past three weeks, I have finished up last minute preparations for attending a 10 day residency at my college. This is the second residency I have attended, the first mostly being a learning experience on how the program works. This time, I had to be prepared to present my research findings, show my work, sit through a formal review of my studio work, and have my works critiqued by professional artists. I also attended lectures, slide presentations, and workshops, as well as started planning out my future studies.
I was also fortunate to meet Jana Harper, and will be working with her in the next six months as my Artist-Teacher. I have several ideas for where my work is going and think I will end up focusing on Photography and Video work for this semester, possibly with some bookmaking aspects, too. |
