Journaling as I go this week, instead of waiting until Sunday night.
Just finished another class at Ithaca College, in which I painted book covers for my handmade book and worked on my weaving. Also instructed Portrait Drawing to the college students, who started out terrified, but ended up feeling better about their drawing skills in the end. (3 hour class) I got my car washed, which only took a few minutes, but I took some snapshots from within. I thought the images would be uniquely different to play around with in multiple-exposures. The photography took about 1-2 minutes, but the editing is taking about 30 minutes. Finally began to assemble the paint brush color wheel that has been a pipe dream for two years now! My lovely co-artist in this activity came in to the high school today to begin the assembly with me. It took us about 30-45 minutes to glue the brushes down--we didn't really check our start and stop time. Before I left today, I checked on it and the glue seemed to be setting up and holding the brushes in place quite well! I still think it needs another application of glue, just to be sure. Last official day at Lansing High School today. Came home and started sketching a giant doodle, based off a sketch I drew a few years back. Just experimenting and if I like it enough, might make an actual large scale painting of it. (1 hour)

Kind of a crazy week to find time to make actual art. Double booked my time between finishing up at Lansing High School and teaching at Ithaca College. I do have hands on art making time built into the course I teach at IC, so I am sharing some of what I have been teaching future elementary school teachers! Our biggest art project in that class is weaving, but we also make an accordion book, landscape paintings, and several drawings. We also discuss what it means to make authentic art experiences for their students, over cursory, sterile projects. (6 hours)
I did experiment with a background for the Typographic Portrait I made for my nephew last year. I am getting closer to a solution, but still need to make the figures appear more grounded. (30 minutes) Finally, I played around in Photoshop a bit, with multiple-exposures of me against a night sky and a cloud sky--somewhat of a diptych. The night sky was a long-exposure from Topsail Island, and the clouds were also from there. (1 hour) The last art related activity I did this past week was make plans to visit the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the Bronx Botanical Gardens. (30 minutes). I booked a hotel and researched the show. Of course, I will be taking ample photographs once I am there. Total time spent: 8 hours Wasting no time. Got to work on learning about my future students' interests on Pinterest (1 Hour) and started pinning to their Shared Inspiration boards.
Also using my own sketchbook to de-stress, taking a break from submitting final grades and whatnot. "Pink Mom" took about 45 minutes--I broke the cardinal rule and drew from an image on my phone. This is a pic of her back when she was in her late teens. I also added a few more images to my personal website, www.gatorheadoriginal.com (30 minutes). I also finished gardening this weekend, picking out flowers that would complement each other (based on their colors, textures, and shapes--the shopping, selecting, and planting took roughly 2 hours). Finally, I cleaned out my studio (1 hour) so I am ready to use it again. Looking forward to some bigger summer art projects! Total time spent: 5 hours 15 minutes |
